Hello World! Welcome back to another blog. Today I will be talking you through what I did during the Christmas holidays. It seems to have flown by, but there are still some bits I do remember. So without further ado, here is what I got up to:
Watching The Darts:
This was one of my main activities, and another special interests. I don't know what it is, but there is something about people throwing three pins on the board that just fascinates me. And this year one of my goals is to start learning. Yes the main goal is to gain regular acting work but it's important to have other interests outside of the arts, as you never know when it might come in handy. I was abit unsure if I was too old to learn something new, but at nearly 24 years old, I realised that I'm still young and that even when I am older, you're never too old to learn something new.
Yes the final wasn't as good as last years, for me personally, but one of the main highlights for me was Luke Littler, who made his world debut and made it to the final, and he's only 16. It amazes me how he has achieved that much, and if he was this good now, I know he'll do even better in the years to come. I also admired Luke Humphries opening up about his anxiety in his post tournament interview, and it just goes to show that no matter what life is facing, there's always a way through it. With the premier league coming up soon, you'll hear me talk more about it in more of my weekly highlights when you least expect it.
Writing:
Another thing I got up to during the holidays is writing. This featured looking at a couple of my stories (one of which is nearly finished) and starting a new script for The Writers Access Group competition for the BBC Writers Room. The script I'm working on now is inspired by my branch manager at my day job, and how there are people out there who are willing to make the world a more accessible place for people like me, and that they can also learn things from people like me.
I'm also writing another script in the making, which is about finding love from an autistic point of view. This is in the world of speed dating, and its in the early stages, but it includes drafts where for me personally autistic people will get it. Then once its complete it may be the next project we do after my current film.
I don't know when they'll be complete, as you never know what life can throw at you. But the main enjoyment out of it was how much I got done and just writing to get into the flow state, even if I can't remember fully what I was going yo write, was so therapeutic. So all I can say is watch this space.
Caught Up On Podcasts:
Another thing I did was catching up on some podcasts, particularly Act On This. As I'm writing this I can safely say that I've caught up on the latest 5 podcasts for 2023 along with an extra one about creating my own short film with the team of ROY, including David Bradley himself. There were parts of me that wondered if I should've listened to that one before I started making the film, but better late than never I guess, and this information will also help me in the near future (as I am in the works of writing another script for another potential film). Now we're in 2024 and the first podcast being up already, it's time to get my year off with a high.
Watched TV:
I've also watched a lot of TV, and I watched that much of it that of there was a side hustle to watch shows, sign me up. These included Christmas films, specials of well-known shows (and I still have some to catch up on but once my film is wrapped up then that'll be the main thing on my to do list), and also a film on New Years Eve.
This was Lion, which starred Dev Patel and Sunny Pawar, which tells the real life story of Saroo Brierley, who was accidentally separated from his family, and then 25 years later he was reunited with them. I'll do a full review of the film in a later post along with other films I've seen in 2023, both in the cinema and at the comfort of my own home, but all I can say, it was an emotional rollercoaster.
Relaxed:
The final thing I did during the holidays was something that I did about 80% of the week... Nothing.
Sometimes you just need to switch off and recharge, which is what I did. And as someone on the spectrum where my brain is going in and out like the hocky cockey, it was vital for me. Now as I'm writing this, I'm learning to work on my goals, but also take time to relax, go easy (especially since my current film is now coming together) and also make time to take part in other skills outside of acting, as there is more to life than the performing arts industry. And I might need those skills when I least expect it.
And that's what I got up to during the Christmas Holidays. I hope you enjoyed this read and lets make 2024 a year to remember.
See you soon for another blog. Until next time...
This is The Autistic Actress signing off :)
