Hello world! Welcome back to another blog! This week was a busy one, as even though it's a week off of my day job, I managed to take on a course I did before but managed to get alot out of it! So without further ado, here is what I got up to this week in both my professional and personal life!
Professional:
Sketch:
One thing I did was film the last part of my sketch. But then I found the original shot without the technical glitch, so overall I was happy with it. Please see the link to the full sketch here:
Applied for jobs:
As always I continued to apply for some more jobs within the acting sector. There were some I missed the chance to nudge my agent on due to it being very busy for me that week, but sometimes you have make way for the good to bring in the great. And after submitting in an online audition for the festive period and booking in a chance to raise awareness for a topic close to my heart, I think that’ll lead onto greater things. But more on that shortly!
Screen School:
All week I was back at a course called screen school. This is where we learn about screen acting, the technical side of it and getting some new footage in the process. It was a lot to take in, but I’ve learnt so much. And unlike the last few scene schools I got the chance to do some other roles behind the camera. These were the clapper board and directing side. I also had a moment where I did forget a prop needed, meaning I had to change the subtext of the character. But thanks so the workshop where I’ve learnt to say the first thing that came to my head, I’ve adapted to it and I thoroughly enjoyed the process. Here are some snapshots of two of the days and also the looks of my characters. Let me know when reading this the characters I played during these two days!
This week was also an excuse to savour some of the essential pre Screen School snacks as seen below. Yes it may not be the healthiest things to eat, but as long as everything is in moderation you can't go wrong!
Using my platform to spread awareness:
On the Monday I got an interesting phone call from a company who wanted to speak to me about an opportunity I applied for. And as soon as I rang them I knew I wanted to take part in it. Yes it was a quick turnaround but that’s for most stuff in the industry, and this call that was given to me was something I wanted to grab. As now that the film is ready for festivals, I want to use it and along with other projects like this I want to make something good out of a “bad situation”. And when I mean by that is that most people will see it like that.
National Youth Theatre & Me:
Something which I haven’t done before but I’m glad I did was catch up on a national youth theatre recording. This one was about Tom Allen’s journey within the company and how it’s helped him be the person he is today. And it’s so inspiring to hear his story, and so it’s made me even more positive to reach out for those opportunities even if I can’t actually apply for them due to reasons beyond my control most of the time.
Dirty Dancing:
I guess this is also linked into personal as well as I needed to have a night of self care before the rest of the week of being busy. And I’m glad I watched it, as I feel this was the first time I’ve seen the film properly. It’s also made me want to see this show in the west end providing it’s still on for a while. I’m glad I watched it as well as I’ve had ideas which I noted down for a story inspired by the film itself, so now when I go to start it I at least have the confidence to say I watched the whole film to get my inspiration from.
Shows I watched:
Hollyoaks:
Hollyoaks brought another week of drama. I’m glad that Freya and Vicky were able to forgive Leah after what happened with the trolling, band I hope it’ll be the same for Leela and Joel. I really don’t like what Abe is doing to Cleo gradually and it looks like all hands are on Dave when he tries to help Hannah out of a dangerous situation.
Tuesdays addition brought the drama as Dave is still missing and with Hannah trying to do the right thing, Rex has definitely got Hannah under her spell. And Abe is definitely showing signs of coercive control. Now I know there is a reason for everything but until I find out what that reason for Abe is I don’t feel sorry for him at all especially after posting the pictures of her drunk. And I think Lucas and Dillon are ready to take the next level.
Wednesdays addition brought the drama. Hannah could see what Abe Truly is, and with Emma Rigby’s exit on the cards I think that this may link to it. I also get why Ste is concerned for Lucas and Dillon after what happened and that is legit parenting skills. I’m also pleased that despite after a rough time with the post-mortem results Leela and Joel are finding a way through the grief.
Thursdays episode saw Joel and Leela prepping to say goodbye to their son. And it was a good job Marie was there to stop Joel from running back to Cleo, and I have a feeling that if Abe finds out his controlling will just go further and further, and already he may be using Theresa to only up his game. I also fear for Dilly when an encounter with Martha only leads to danger from a face from the past, and finally I do get why Lucas is scared to take things further given what’s happened with Carter, but that definitely resulted in Dillon being frustrated for lying about the real reason. Let’s just hope that it can all get sorted.
Fridays episode left me unhappy when Misbah practically pushed Dillon and Lucas further away. I get that she’s just worried given what’s happened and probably heartbroken over Zain, but there’s a difference between being cautious and pushing people away. And Lucas telling Dillon he loves him was a big moment for him, and now misbah has practically ruined it. Let’s just hope that she can see that it’s not like that at all. I also can’t believe that Abe has caught Cleo on the phone, and that sienna is really in for it when she seems a seemingly old face. I also hope that Joel can move past what he said to Cleo for leelas sake and that Scott will have a tough job on his hands when he finds out some news about millets dad.
Coronation Street.
I also took a trip down to the cobbles. The last few minutes of last Wednesdays episode ended not so great for toyah but she was lucky Rowan dropped the case. And after previously standing up for Glenda I’m glad that she and Michael have got to the place they need. And with Summer introducing the family to her new boyfriend I felt for her as if that was me I would be awkward bringing someone I liked to see if they approved. It as long as that special someone made me happy that’s all that matters. And Ken is in for a real rollercoaster when he gets back home after his accident
Mondays episode kept giving even more drama. It was bad enough for Toyah having Rowan pay for her daughters funeral, but his “minion” catching her and Nick through the art of passion did no good for her. And I dread to think what will happen next. I’m also intrigued to see how Cassie will get on and Ken’s career and that having no hot water is a living nightmare. But with Gemma and Chesney in this position with their family you do have to feel for them. And despite Bethany not writing an article linking to Corey’s documentary I know that Abi won’t back down from the potential real culprit of the deep fake videos. Finally I can see why Paul pushed Felix away as maybe he was trying to get rid of him to avoid that moment. But I’m glad Todd was able to make him see sense and that things are on good terms with them.
Wednesdays just upped the anti. Cassie made a start of taking care of Ken and after a dodgy start she may have found her true calling. Leanne has also gone further into the institute, and I can’t believe that Toyah is giving up on her fight to show her what they truly are. Paul also made a huge mistake when the nurse came to check on him after his fall, and Chesney is starting to feel the strain of if he’s coping with everything that’s happening financially. And finally even though Abi didn’t get the result she wanted, it looks a though Kevin may be on hand to do some digging himself.
Bridgerton:
On the Thursday I finally started Bridgerton. Even though I know what happens from the spoilers on instagram I just couldn’t wait to get started on this again. Episode 1 brought a new look for both Colin and Penelope, as it’s obvious they’ve got an attraction. I also admired how they had someone who was hard of hearing which I feel is a groundbreaking moment for the show. And it appears that Francesca may be showing signs of autism. As the special interest in the piano and feeling slightly overwhelmed by loud noises made it a sign to me. I also got to see a side to Cressida when she take with Eloise. And I can see why she acts the way she is but I feel that unless she changes her ways she won’t get a husband in any seasons for that matter.
Episode 2 was quite an adventure for Penelope, and her mum could’ve been supportive when she said told her about her decision to find a husband. I’m glad that Colin was on hand to help her with the mission, but with someone spreading the gossip about her you’ve got to feel for her. But Colin is clearly starting to maybe realise that he may be starting to like Penelope. I’m also surprised that prudence and Philipa are yet to understand the art of baby making, and lady Danbury knew that Francesca would be able to shine with a familiar environment, and I think that the queen may her found her diamond. and it also looks like that Lord and lady Kent may be getting on with their new life well and also Benedict is still not looking to settle down but perhaps explore other avenues.
Personal:
Despite it being a professional heavy week, I managed to also fit in some activities to help with the self-care side and also to de-stress from life itself! And other than spending time with my wonderful dog Margo as seen below, here is what I got up to in the personal aspect this week!
Read book:
This week as always I continued reading “An Actor’s Alphabet” with some very useful information for chapters M, N, O and P. “M for mental health” was really eye opening, and there was one moment where Julie’s daughter does a checklist to make sure her mental well-being is in tact. And that’s a very smart thing to do and something that I should do more often. “N for no” was also intriguing as I know that even if the job is well paid if you’re not passionate about it then what’s the point in even doing it. I’ve been offered an opportunity to take part in an awareness project. Yes it’s unpaid but I know that by sharing my side of the story on a topic close to my heart I’m hoping it’ll lead to paid work in the long run. Equally I’ve also gained a lot from “O for openness” and that you need to at least try something that’s scares you. I won’t say what Julie mentions in this chapter as you’ll need to read the book itself but good on her for taking on the challenge. For “P for process” she mentions what she does when preparing for a character for a tv series or play. Sometimes she goes really in depth and at other times it’s the tiniest details. Again I won’t say what specifically to avoid any spoilers but let’s just say that she has a thorough process of breaking down a character.
Learnt French:
As always I continued to learn my languages. I also started to make my way back into learning Korean, and it’s quite a unique skill to have. But I know that there is a day where I need to look at the English spelling for the Korean pronunciation, but after scheduling Wednesday as my self care week, I can’t use that time to at least spend 30 minutes doing just that. But all in all I’m proud of myself for getting back into quite possible a hard language to learn.
Blog:
I’ve been developing my newest blogs, which were my latest tv reviews and my screen school experience. As I’m writing this I’m three quarters of the way through my tv reviews and a quarter of my screen school reviews. So all in all I got them started and I’m proud of myself for it.
Exercise:
I only did one session at the gym this week due to me being busy at screen school, but I managed to get my yoga routine in twice this week. This was better than nothing, although when I’m set in my first paid gig, if it is a lengthy period I may need to see how I can add in fitness into my routine. But if I could manage to do self tapes within the deadline and deal with that sudden change better then I’m sure I can do this.
Shows I watched:
The Piano: Episode 3 of The Piano was full of talent. This is Edinburgh though so it had one of the highest standards of any cities. It had it all, from a woman who toured the world with her piano, a girl who wrote a song dedicated to her sister and a man who spent most of his life working in a bank when he wanted to pursue his psi on for theatre. But Lang Lang and Mika decided to take not one, but two to the concert. They were an Ukrainian civilian who knew that as soon as she was announced it meant so much to her given what’s happened, and a child prodigy who impressed Lang Lang so much. I can’t wait to see what they do for the final concert.
Episode 4 was shown in Victoria station and I can see why it was popular. From a fright player who did a Billy Joel cover to a drag artist who used his one persona during his piece really showed an array of talents. But I can see why Michael was chosen, and what he said the piece was about I guess represents the language barrier between neurotypical people and neurodiverse people. And that’s brilliant to see.
Celebrity Gogglebox:
Once again I tuned into the celebrities reaction to all things tv. Countdown saw them amazed by a 16 year old genius, joeys reaction to an old face on Love Island, a cake going very wrong in Bake Off: The Professionals and a strange act making an appearance on Motorway hotel. I also don’t want to do a triathlon after seeing Under Paris on Netflix, and that I loved the celebs reaction when the Supervet managed to give a puppy a second chance of life. As if they had to put the dog down in front of them that would’ve been it for me. Finally the face of Chris Packham watching Milf Manor was just priceless, and I thought they were going to reveal a certain body part, when in fact it was just something else. But for some reason I’m just hooked onto this series. And that was just from the best bits shown.
What have I learnt this week? Having that week off work surrounded by like-Minded creatives has helped me ignite my passion for the arts again. And I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
See you soon for another blog. Until next time…
This is The Autistic Actress signing off :)
