Hello World,
Welcome back to the blog. I just wanted to give you guys an update on what I have been up to.
Let me take you to the start of the week. It started off actually from 14th May, where I attended a directing workshop, where we had Sarmad Masud telling us about his journey into directing, what he does and also look at the shows he's done. I was lucky enough to do a scene from Ackley Bridge and my only notes was to focus and the objective and do something else whilst saying the dialogue, as in life we don't stand and have a conversation. We also had a chat with two stars from Bulletproof, and it gave us a real insight into what being a jobbing actor looks like. That is a day I will never forget and fingers crossed, I'll be in a show he's directing very soon.
I also managed to paint my nails as a bit of self care, as the day job I work at nail varnish is not the best thing to have. Even though some of it came off it's nice to have some self care opportunities like this.
I also managed to catch up on noting some short stories which will be posted on my Wattpad profile. Writing has been something that's interesting to me, and I remember when I was at school, the substitute teacher saw my work and he immediately took an interest to it (as the particular story I wrote had the theme of the TV show merlin, set in medival times). this week gave me the opportunity to feel like that 13-14 year old writer, and as I'm hoping to balance this year to find other creative passions that'll make me equally fulfilled as acting, I'm hoping to use this tool to continue to not only pursue as a hobby, but as a side hustle (which yes its nowhere near that stage yet but if I change my believe to a side hustle it'll motivate me even more to continue down this path), where that would be writing monologues, self tapes, scripts for TV/film or stories like I'm doing now.
This week has also given me the chance to catch up on Actros Expo seminars. I may only have until May 30th to watch all of them but I know there are some where if I don't watch them it's not the end of the world (as some did have sound difficulties) but there were some I absolutely loved. One was Arron Llyod who taught us how to overcome anxiety and impostor syndrome by doing the tasks rather than talking about it. This helped me to get through the clip and also catchup on my notes in one sitting, which i think is more beneficial than talking as the experts say you learn by doing, and that seminar in particular was a prime example.
Whilst we're on the subject of doing, part of the industry is not just performing, but it's also about finding work yourself and submitting yourself for jobs. This week also gave me the chance to submit myself for lots of jobs on Spotlight (The home of casting) and Mandy (where if starting out especially its a very useful site), and I even got some messages about asking me to tape. Whilst I couldn't get that opportunity to tape didn't come (as life got in the way), the fact that I got a message asking me to audition is a huge step in itself. It just goes to show that by being consistent good things will happen, and I plan to take that with me in the near future.
My final update is I went to the gym 4 times this week!!!! That's the most amount of times I've been so far this year. going to the gym has been a huge part of my life since I was 15, particularly the weights as they make me feel strong and resilient (which is probably why when the Olympics or commonwealth games are on I'm a huge fan of the weightlifting, especially when Emily Campbell won the first Olympic medal for great Britain since 1974). This had meant I didn't have much time to do any yoga, but sometimes it's important tor remember to focus on one area of exercise on some weeks and then going back to a different one the next.
To finish my weekly highlights I had my first lie in on the Saturday in what feels like forever. It may not have benefitted me later on as I had to be at work the following day early in the morning but sometimes you need to listen to your body, and I most certainly did it.
I hope everyone is well and hope to check back in with you all soon :)
Until next time...
This is the Autistic Actress singing off :)
