My Peaky Blinders trip

Hello world! Here is what I got up to when I went to watch "Peaky Blinder: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby" and also my review of the show.

I started the day by getting the bus to my hometown, making sure I have everything I needed before I set off on my journey

I arrived in Nottingham with 40 minutes until the next train to Birmingham. During this time I managed to stick myself with coop snacks and a costa drink and treat. It was an interesting train journey, as I had my languages to keep myself occupied. But sometimes being in the present is just as important, as it makes you appreciate the simple things in life.

I finally arrived at Birmingham New Street, only to find the stop was underground, and that I had to walk to the top to get out. And let me tell you, Birmingham New Street is HUGE!!!! Just like London, it was a new world to me, and they even had an Upper Crust, which do the BEST sandwiches. But I had my sandwich which I already got, so I couldn’t exactly get something else before the show. But I know now for next time to get an upper crust whenever I go to Birmingham next time.

The theatre was only a 5 minute walk from the station, so I thought I’d have a wonder to explore the area. I saw an interesting place called “Snob” and I went into this amazing anime shop, with books I was tempted to buy. I’d decided to hang on until the show was finished.

After I had my Morrisons sandwich I eventually went into the theatre. After a brief difficulty in getting in due to a ticket problem, I got my merchandise (which included a programme as seen below), drink and took my seat. The scenery was beautiful, feeling as though I walked into a royal palace.

As the show started, the first scene was of WW1, introducing the characters. One of which was an amputee, who was revealed to be Musa Motha, who made history on Britain’s Got Talent and was the first ever group golden buzzer. After his performance I can see why. My seat was nearer the corner, so I couldn't see everything, but never the less, I moved as closer as I can to the centre without blocking others. With dance shows, it's hard to understand the story behind it, and even though I knew the show, I was still trying to wriggle my head around the story for each segment, but it wasn't until after the show I had an idea of it.

During the break, I headed outside, and I could hear the audience talk about how amazing it was so far. I also heard some ladies about how it wasn't up their street. Then again not everyone is going to like everything, but it did make me wonder why they decided to go in the first place. I decided to mind my own business, and bought my interval ice cream before heading back to my seat.

When act 2 started, it briefly paused due to a technical fault. I didn’t know what to feel at the time, as I looked at my clock worried I would miss my train. Thankfully after about 5 minutes it had been fixed and the show continued. The way the performers carried on after a setback like this was beyond me. That right there is the sign of true professionals.

Musa took to the stage for his solo once again, and he was an actual star. After hearing his story on BGT, watching him live and then again on the show seemed more powerful. A lot of people would question why he would enter a show like BGT even though he's already a professional dancer, as there have been many occasions like this before. But then I thought to myself, maybe even though Rambert (the name of the dance company of the show) gave him a chance to do what he loves, he wanted to step up and make a name for himself by inspiring others. I'm not sure if it was the definite answer but either way, Rambert supported him every step of the way.

The end of the show consisted with the dancers doing their choreography to the main theme sing again, and I couldn't help but tap my feet along. It ended with Jeremiah saying "That from this day on, Tommy Shelby decided... he'll live."

A rapturous applause came from the audience as the cast made their way to take their bows. I couldn't help but stand up myself as they did a wonderful job. I was considering asking if I could meet the dancers at stage door, but I was conscious of the time. I had to get going, but not before I took photos of the rehearsal stages.

As I was doing it, I was having a chat with a lovely lady, looked to be in her late 60s, early 60s. She mentioned how beautiful it was and the dancing being incredible, and I could not agree more.

As I made my way back, I decided to head into the shop and bought 2 of the books I saw. These were the Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen, and Snap Dragon By Kat Leyh. These are both set out as comic books. I haven't read a comic style book in ages, so I'm excited to read them when the time comes. When that'll be is another question as I also have other books from Christmas and my birthday to catch up on.

And I couldn't leave without getting a Krispy Kreme, my sweet tooth was calling for it.

The journey back was a stressful one. The train was slightly delayed and I also spent the first part of it standing up. I thought to myself at this moment "just what I needed" knowing full well I had my rucksack and 2 bags of merchandise to carry.

Eventually I did manage to find a seat, and listened to a Steven Barlett podcast. I stopped about a quarter of the way through as I couldn't concentrate. It was safe to say the day had got to me, as I could feel my face nearly dropping. So I decided to take out my headphones and paid attention to the world around me. And that was magical.

I managed to get back home in time for the Premier League Darts final, as that was what I needed to wind down and relax. All I can say is... Michael Van Gerwan, what a legend you are (as this was the 7th time he won the Premier League). And I even had time for a little selfie before I got ready for bed.

And that sums up my day of going to a new city by myself for the first time. For some it may not be that massive, but for someone on the spectrum, this was definitely a big step for me.

And what have I learnt during this trip? You can do it. You just need to push yourself and it will all pay off.

I hope everyone enjoyed this read and until next time...
