Hello world! Welcome back to another blog and my final weekly highlights before I take a break from the summer holidays! So without further ado, for the final time before I celebrate the summer, here is what I got up to this week!
Professional:
Shooting:
This week I managed to shoot my bit for an exciting project. I don’t know how much I can reveal but what I will say is the crew were lovely, the director said that I come so natural on camera and the person who took me to the venue and back really was an inspiration after telling me their story. As it just goes to show that yes the start may have been abit wobbly, but through growth and learning from these mistakes you can honestly achieve any you put your mind to. I was also amazed at what he does and that he aims to apply for a well known tv show using his passion. I won’t say what but let’s just say my Nan is a fan of the show they’re applying for! I can honestly say I have found part of a tribe I’ve been looking for, and after taking in the new surroundings and getting a well deserved KFC, I've had a good day! I can’t wait for you all to see what I’ve been doing!
Acting class.
This week in my acting class was a strange one. As the football was on and there was also a casting linking to it there wasn’t many people. But it meant that we could get more done. These included an audition for the final part of the classes feature film (which I recorded the next day) and an exercise where we had to have a keen ear. We then did an exercise where we had to argue about something and increase the volume. This fitted in well with working on some scenes from the play “God Of Carnage” and I quite enjoyed doing the scenes . Now for next week we need to pick a script to lead liens from and be prepped for an audition style performance. This was a way to test ourselves in this scenario and all I can say is bring it on.
Act on this table talk:
This week I managed to catch up on the lengthy table talk! I won’t give away all of it, but the biggest thing I learnt is to find something inside of the industry as well as outside of the industry to keep the creativity going. So for example doing voiceover or even if you’re working at a theatre but as a front of house staff. As even though it’s still a day job at least it’s something surrounded by the arts! I also learnt that if I don’t have my health I have nothing. And that is true when it comes to auditions and being in the right frame of mind. But equally after the death of rob burrows it’s moments like this where we should not take our health for granted and be so fortunate to get out of bed in the morning! So a good session with some valuable takeaways!
Screening of a new film!
This week I managed to watch the screening of a film I was an extra in, but not before I got a cup of tea from my favourite coffee shop next to the station!
The event itself was brilliant! And despite leaving early I had a great time! I got to see familiar faces, new faces and some faces I haven’t seen in a long time! It was a wonderful event, and after a stressful day at my day job that day, a drink and a night of entertainment is what I needed! I’ll be doing a full review of the event in a future blog, but all I can say is, it was emotional and as it’s to raise awareness for dementia, it gave it an authentic feel to it! And I finally got to see Vicky McClure live, which was a massive bonus!
Shows I watched:
Coronation Street:
Last Fridays episode of Coronation Street was a tense one. Kev has got himself in a sticky situation with Stefan it being caught out by Bethany when max tried to help. And after seeing spoilers I have a feeling that it’s only going to get even worse. I’m also glad that Toyah's situation has been closed but I feel that her revenge on the institute is still lingering. And you have to feel for Gemma and Chesney when they get the eviction notice. And after taking his frustrations out on Joseph you can see how much it’s affected him. But after seeing spoilers with regarding Kit I wonder if he’s the unlikely solution to their problems?
Hollyoaks:
Hollyoaks this week as always brought in drama, giggles and a lot of emotion. On Mondays episode I felt that Scott knew what he had to do with regards to Miley but you could see how much it broke his heart. And that’s when you know that a foster carer is a good one as it feels like you’re saying goodbye to your own child. And after being frustrated with Misbah for interfering with Lucas and Dillon, I do get why she’s cautious after what happened with Imran and his temper. But I feel that she needs to let them work it out on their own, and I was glad that they continued their relationship but let’s hope that when the time is right Misbah will have their approval. And also Dilly can see Martha’s true colours, but I wonder how Sienna and Liberty will feel when she tells them about their uncle (who looks a lot like the abusive Patrick Blake) will come to live with them?
Tuesdays addition brought in a big question. And what I mean by that is even though Jeremy seems like a nicer guy than his twin, can see why everyone else is suspicious. And I wonder why he’s covering up a tattoo? I also for Cindy when Dave comes home slightly injured but I feel that the Red guy did this. And finally despite Charlie’s best efforts to reunite Darren and Nancy after the incident, Oscar may have found something that food change everyone. But let’s hope that JJ won’t stop him from telling the truth.
Wednesday may be the end of the line for JJ, where after Frankie saw the extent of his true nature she made a bald statement to the police. But I wonder if it’s linking to that! I also know that Cindy is one the warpath after finding out the truth about the drugs that killed Lizzie and that I can see why sienna is upset when Jeremy lashes out at her. I may not have seen the full Patrick storyline but my guess is she’s living through de ja vu after that. I’m also guessing that the text Misbah got from Zain is linking to his exit. Well whatever it is let’s hope that Zain leaves the village unharmed.
Thursday brought some disappointment as even though JJ said he won’t do what he did to Frankie this time I don’t believe him. It may cause her to change the statement, but Oscar may have found something that’ll only just get worse. And I knew about Ross Adams' departure and after news on Scott getting in contact about a position at an arts club in Spain I wonder if that’s how he’ll exit? I also wonder what is she will do when Zain announces his new job and that I hope Mercedes plan to get close to Warren to expose the truth is a dangerous game!
Fridays addition led to Mercedes being double crossed by Warren after the surprise he’s made for her. And even though Prince he made it clear that he’ll end Warren himself, a shooting may change everything. And JJ has got Oscar and Frankie still wrapped around the finger but I hope Oscar or someone else hasn’t chucked the evidence away, otherwise that’ll cause the rift from the family even more. And finally even though Misbah is convinced she’s going to Scotland with Zain, I feel it won’t be long until she gets her head turned by Donny again. I can feel it!
Bridgerton:
Episode 3 of Bridgerton may have made Colin realise his true feelings for Penelope. But after she catches the eye of Lord Debling, Colin has some tough competition. Francesca may also have found a match when things get abit hasty for her. And I’m also abit divided on Cressida as yes I can see why she feels the pressure to find a husband but I really feel like she needs to control her attitude.
Episode 4 was probably the sauciest episode by a mile! Despite Lord Debling bailing out on Penelope it didn’t stop her from getting passionate with Colin! I know what happens on Instagram but now I’m just eager to watch the next episode. But I was curious on her mums reasons not to marry for love as maybe she was heartbroken in the past. A classic form of a limiting belief. I also know that the new lord of Kent will not close his bar down despite what others say he needs to do in order to fit in, and that Francesca may have found a match of her own. I do start to fee sorry for Cressida also given how her parents are treating her, and I wonder if violet will fall in love again? If so I just hope lady Danbury approves!
We Are Lady Parts:
I started a new series which is We Are Lady Parts! And already I think I’m going to enjoy this show, as there are so many things I relate to anima, especially on a romantic level. And her crush Ahsan does look cute and I can see why she likes him. I can say as well that the end of the episode showed Amina's true potential but I wonder how it’ll keep with her double life after Ahsan revealed he only liked her as a friend. And I can see the other personalities of characters slightly like Saira who is quite reserved so I’m eager to see her backstory.
Episode 3 did just that, as maybe she was hesitant on her new relationship due to her trauma. And it’s often the case of those having a guard up and acting as if everything is fine when in fact it isn’t. And even though Amina and Ahsan are still friends I feel that something will grow between them. But despite her and the band heading to the countryside to let out some stress, the audition for smash mouth didn’t exactly go to plan. But I wonder how they can come back from this.
A Kind Of Spark:
Another new show I started this week was A Kind Of Spark. Yes it’s a kids show but the fact that it’s highlighting autism as the main subject is something special. As then it’ll give young people from an early age an understanding of what it is and that just because you have it it does not mean to say that you can’t achieve anything. Also Lola Blue who played Ellie Benton in Coronation Street was brilliant so far, and I wonder if she’s autistic in real life? And if she is that’s something to mention next time I email the casting team at Corrie! I also liked the flashbacks and that maybe one of the women from the past was autistic but it’s seen as witchcraft at the time. Episode 1 already set the context nicely, as I got to see that Addie was friends with someone before big school and that some people like Emily just don’t understand. But her new special interest in witches may be the thing she needs to help her with her new surroundings. And in episode 2 new student Audrey is keen to get to know Addie for who she is and despite not being with her during a council speech, she is sure going to be a friend in her time of need. But I feel addies older sister Keedie (who was the same girl from Doctors) is still coming to terms with her own diagnosis. I get that it can be hard but if Addie and her sister Tina (who is keen to show that being autistic is not a bad thing) can see that it’s not something evil then why can’t her?
Episode 3 I feel brought a sense of hope for Addie. As her mum mentioned something to miss Murphy which I feel is important… autism is not something that you have it’s something that you are! And she is very true on that. And I’m glad Audrey is standing by her despite what Emily says, and I’m also glad that Nina's boyfriend also isn’t bothered by Addie's personality.
Episode 4 saw Addie in the big city. With the help of Nina’s boyfriend, she managed to find a shocking discovery on what really happened to Maggie! And it also bought Nina and Keedie together after a trip to the vintage shop. Episode 5 saw Addie double crossed by Jenna, and Emily almost ruined things for Nina and Keedie’s 16th. But thankfully everyone was able to help them, and I hope that Keedie will tell the truth about her autism to her new friends soon, as Addie did make a point. And I wonder if Elinor in the past was autistic, but maybe it was seen as witchcraft? But as Keedie said there’s maybe more to the story than meets the eye!
Personal:
Read book:
Once again I was back to “An Actors Alphabet”, where once again I was hooked on the information being given out.
For “Q for quiet times”, she was right to manage the time as bast I can, as like me, most actors will have day jobs to do. But the trick is to do at least one thing to fill my creative well! So for me listening to act on this podcasts is an example as I’m learning from people in the industry. Or seeing a show, as I haven’t seen one for a few months but with my dads birthday present coming up it’s an excuse to go to the theatre. For “R for Rehearsals, Rehearsal Rooms and Representation” there was alot to unfold. Firstly she broke the limiting belief on how “you can’t get a job without an agent” and that for her it took her a good few years before she got represented. She also mentioned briefly on being out of the rehearsal rooms due to her stint on Corrie but enjoyed coming back into it, and also about how to behave in a rehearsal room and the changes it seeing with regards to events that have happened. So I’d say it’s been really nice to see. For “S for Social Media” she stated how at times it’s helpful for many reasons like her 500 Acts of Kindness on Facebook but also it’s good to take some times out from it. As before you know it, 30 minutes can go in the blink of an eye. So it’s finding a balance between going online and being present without it! And for “T for Trauma and Triggering” there was a lot of useful stuff to be said. These included seeing a doctors about stuff like PTSD if you’re going through it, and also mentioned how a friend of hers used the lucid body technique to connect to a certain emotion for a emotion for a performance. And she also mentioned how starting a conversation is also the job of being an actor after doing a play based on the attack of Sophie Lancaster. So overall some very informative stuff indeed.
Exercise:
My exercise routine this week was not great due to the workload I had. But I managed to get my steps in when I was in London and I got in 4 yoga sessions, a home workout and a workout at the gym. Despite feeling it on the Thursday I was there, it was worth it! And at least I did abit of exercise then no exercise at all!
Darts:
On Friday after a stressful day at my day job I played a game of darts before going out for the evening. And it was a game well needed, as it let out all of the stress and tension of the day and I landed on a double 12 to finish. So I would say it was a good game
Cooking:
Once again I was using my culinary skills into action and once again made dinner for the family. I decided to go for something simple as my Nan had surgery and I didn’t want her to overdo it. But all in all along with abit of supervising from my nan, I made a good meal! And it was a winner with my family so I think I did a pretty good job there!
Baby shower:
To celebrate the final day of June I went to my first ever baby shower, celebrating my friends first child to be. It was a lovely afternoon and after merely masking myself I soon got comfortable and slowly started to peel the layers. And I had a wonderful time, I got 10 out of 16 questions on how well I know my friend and even though I did a bad job at pin the dummy on the baby (lol), I managed to get it on the board at least! And it's moments like this where life isn't always about acting!
Shows I watched:
The Piano: episode 5 of The Piano brought the search to a brilliant end. From a Billy Joel cover to a guy named Billy the hat, it had it all. And a girl who wrote her own song in memory of a friend she lost and about her own battle which I thought was amazing. But the star definitely had to be Brad, where after going through a lot and now having a family of his own, I can see why he was picked for the final concert! I can’t wait to see what he brings out of the bag.
Celebrity gogglebox
The final show I watched this week was the first half of Celebrity Gogglebox (where I watched the rest the following week). Let’s just say that they felt bad when a contestant lost on “Beat The Chasers”, and that they got more questions than answers on “The unXplained: Mysteries Of The Universe”. I feel that both me and then felt disturbed in “Most Outrageous Homes”, and that they felt a sense of nostalgia from “Top Of The Pops 1992” when Take That performed on there. Although I can imagine mum watching it (God Rest Her Soul£ and her being mesmerised by Gary Barlow in particular lol! So all in all a good episode really.
What have I learnt this week? Health is wealth after watching the table talk, there’s more to life than the industry, as the baby shower has taught me! And finally after seeing the film to raise awareness for dementia and in the words of Stephen Hawking… when there’s life, there’s hope!
And that’s it for my weekly highlights. As I said at the beginning, I’ll be taking a break from them for the summer holidays! But keep an eye out on my blog for tv shows I’ve seen, theatre I awed and also new opportunities that have developed my craft as an actor and creative!
So in the meantime, see you soon for another blog. Until next time…
This is The Autistic Actress signing off :)
