Final Week off Work, Returning to the Rock and Revisiting Shelby Family Ltd

Hello world! Welcome back to another blog. As we head into the final quarter of 2024 and also my final full week off of my day job for a year, whilst I managed to catch up on some acting work, I also got the rare chance to do some self care activities. Here is what I got up to this week.

Professional:

Audition:

This week I managed to get my audition I got from my agent last week. I know it may not be perfect, but I’m taking on board my teachers advice, which is getting it done is better than getting it perfect. And if my agent said it’s okay then I’m sure it’ll be okay for the casting team.

Act on this:

First tv role fast track:

This week I managed to post my day player diagnosis on the first tv role fast track page. I got some good feedback, but the main thing they pointed out was my age. And as much I don’t want to change (as it’s an autistics worst nightmare), maybe they do have a point. Yes I know I still have a young face, but there gets to a point where you need to question if it’s still the case. So maybe I need to up my age bracket by just a couple of years, and then see what happens from there. I also completed module 2, and I think I need to go back on my notes, as whilst there was some useful information, I need to recap what I need to do to get in touch with the casting departments of the serial dramas in my workbook. And after Doctors now finishing I feel I know which serial drama I need to watch. I also need to ask a question to get some clarity but other than that I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Table talk:

I also managed to catch up on the incredibly long Table Talk. It was a long one but so informative. I learnt that AI isn’t all bad, and that if I make progress before Christmas, I’m already one step ahead of others. I feel I do this already, but hearing Ross and Petch say it feels so refreshing.

Ian Pulestone-Davies:

This week I also listened to the first hour of the latest podcast with actor, writer and director Ian Pulestone-Davies. The first part was so fascinating, as first of all he did the podcast in a hotel foyer which was commitment in itself, and second of all his career and transition from theatre to tv has been incredible. I also admired how he turned a negative to a positive when he mentioned about his OCD, and how it impacted his theatre career. And the trailer for his film “Dirty Filthy Love” is so nostalgic in the sense that the quality was so different compared to now. I can’t wait to hear the rest in the new week.

Acting class:

This week during my acting class we continued to work on stuff for our public event. These included a song for the finale, a game that required certain people using a certain number of words in a sentence and possibly organising a mini pantomime. I also got to perform my monologue again with the notes I got from last time and my teacher and my classmates could tell I did. And let’s just hope I can take on board the next lot of notes he gives me in prep for next week.

Shows I watched:

Doctors:

Doctors was yet filled with more drama. From Rosie sorting out a family dilemma, to rob and Ruhma going on a fishing trip. It’s also good to see Emma back, and I feel Scarlett will like the livestreams Holly does. I’m Also so mad at Graham for bullying Lucas friend Skye into gong pursuing a career for the NHS. I won’t repeat what he said to them, as it’s horrible, but it’s people like Graham where people struggle to be their true authentic selves, even though we live in a day and age where it’s become more accepting. I don’t know if he’s the person whose mind will be changed, but let’s just hope he gets caught out before the show finishes at Christmas. But I also wonder if what he told sid linking to the MSU is all true or if he just wants the practice all to himself? We also got to see some good stuff happening which include suni making a young man realise he can’t be alone, Al sorting out a disagreement between two sisters, Rob helping a social worker being down a cruel foster carer, and Zara helping a struggling man on why his behaviour is so erratic. The foster care one in particular got to me as I’m so grateful to not have a parent as bad as him. But let’s hope that Harri will get the support he needs. I was also pleased by Shayne ward and his real life partner Sophie Austin for making their appearance, and they both carried the story really well.

Hollyoaks:

Hollyoaks definitely brought the drama. Mercedes may be ill, but that doesn’t stop her from getting what she wants, particularly when she asks Grace a favour in which Freddie can’t do himself. And after things get heated for him and Robbie once again, I think he’s becoming the new Warren Fox, and I do kind of like it. You also have to to feel for Darren as I know JJ is ill, but it doesn’t take away what he did to Frankie. I’m just glad Frankie didn’t take the actions she might regret, and that Nancy is able to support Darren. I also never knew that Tony was such a player, and I can’t wait to see what happened during the time jump, and it looks like Jez may be up to his old tricks again.

Coronation Street:

I only managed to watch one episode of Corrie this week due to my dad being away for the weekend and him catching my cold. But that doesn’t mean a lot of drama has happened. Even though Daniel didn’t know it at the time, he must feel guilty about not answering Bethany’s phone sooner, and with seeing the spoilers, her life is about to change forever. I also know that we and Ronnie were trying to protect Dee Dee but he think they made the situation a lot worse. And even though Dylan came clean for Betsy framing Mason, Sean still isn’t keen on him.

Sherwood:

It was all kicking off in Sherwood. Lisa aka the sheriff of Nottingham is not one to be messed with, and Rory sparrow is definitely loosing it wanting revenge of his own. I also hope Ian can control his emotions after the outburst of Harry, especially after what happened at the end of the episode.

Waterloo Road:

The school was once again full of drama. I agree with Kelly-Jo after Noel’s secret crush on her mum (or is it?!?!), and even though Billy did a good job at his solo, I feel his need to stand up to Schuey went too far. But let’s hope they can keep it though out the rest of the series. I also hope Tonya will get the diagnosis she needs in order to get the right help, and I do admire coral for getting through to new student Luca.

Daddy Issues:

Episode 4 of Daddy Issues brought in talks of pregnancy and Xander being the kind soul he is once again. Although Malcom was right to be scared of the husband of his sister Jess. But I liked how Gemma stood up for her dad, and the kind gesture he did for the baby to be was heartwarming, even if it did need re fixing lol! But I can’t wait to watch the last two episodes next week.

Personal:

Seeing a show:

This week saw me back in Nottingham to watch another show. This was the brilliant Come From Away (which I saw before with my college before the pandemic), the show based on the true story of what happened on 11/09/2001, and how the people of Gander came together to help those affected most by it. It wasn’t much of a tear jerker, but it definitely shows the power of community and making something good out of something bad. I’ll be doing a full review of the show very soon, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled, and after the show I went for a drink with my friend Ben who came to watch the show with me, knowing that I needed to make the most of my week off.

Exercise:

Because it was my week off from my day job I had more time to do some exercise. Yes it did take me a while to get used to still as I was still suffering from the aftermath of my cold, but the main thing is I did it and that’s what all that counts.

Read a book:

This week I finished off the book “Wildfire” by Hannah Grace. It was a long read I’ll admit, and with the Olympics and Paralympics over the summer it did take me longer than expected to complete. But I enjoyed it so much, and this was my first adult romance novel. I wasn’t prepared for how detailed it really was, as it was abit like a modern day Bridgerton. But would I read another book like that? Yes I would!

Surveys:

As it was my week off it gave me more time to do some more surveys. It felt like once again a fork of self care for me, as it’s taking my mind off of the pressures of life. Yes I may have not earnt any money from them yet but I’m glad I got to do this form of self care during my week off my day job. So for the last quarter of 2024 I need to do at least one set of 30 minutes of surveys, as I know it’s not much but it’s a start.

Stories:

This wasn’t one of my main things but this week I went back to some stories I started a while back. And with the news that the Peaky Blinders Movie is in production, it felt like a perfect time to come back to it. And after learning to think of the first thing that comes to my head when it comes to writing, I felt less pressure to do well. As I’m writing this I’m nearly finished with the first draft. I may have lost my original notes but never the less I still managed to develop them.

Business Mastery:

This week I also started watching a seminar of Matt Halls Business Mastery. Something about it drew to me, but one thing he said that even though the recording is free treat it as an investment. And it was a long one but I’m glad I got through it, and it did make me wonder if I should take the full course. Yes I don’t want to get overwhelmed, but with me trying to get out of the day job I need to make something good out of something bad. And with the price he’s offering for a limited number of people in swayed to take the chance. Yes it’s an investment but because it’s a 12 month programme, when you think about it monthly, it’s not that bad. So I’m hoping by the end of the week, providing there’s still some spaces left I can make a decision.

Strictly Come Dancing:

I was quite shocked by the first couple who went out, but that just goes to show that anything can happen. But I’m starting to see a real grow in some who I thought were going to be great already and those who I didn’t expect to be. And good on Nick for doing a brilliant routine despite having two days to learn it.

I also started movie week of the show, and boy was there some good dances. From Wayne’s world, to JB playing Wonka and to Pete wicks doing the samba. I really have seen it all. I can’t wait to watch the rest (even though I’ll know who went out then).

Gogglebox:

The Goggleboxers once again came to our screens to dish up some reactions from this weeks tele highlights. From Made in Bondi to a chef who cooked something which is either a starter or dessert, it had it all. Although I don’t think I would watch first dates now that it’s in a new location, and I loved their reaction to Paul Merson doing the salsa on Strictly

Hard Times:

I don’t think I had as much hard times as I did last week, as the week off definitely helped me to rest and recharge. But my cold was the only thing that got in my way, but as I’m writing this I do feel so much better. So let’s hope that luck will be on my side for the week ahead.

What have I learnt this week?

To be more open minded about things and accept things for what they are. As I found out something from my day job which yes it’s abit heartbreaking for me but I get why it had to be done.

See you soon for another blog. Until next time…

This is The Autistic Actress signing off :)
