Hello world! Welcome back to another blog. As the spooky day draws nearer and nearer, here is what I got up to in preparation for it, whilst also making some decisions personally.
Professional.
Filming material:
This week I was back on the filming grind. This was to prep for my Halloween sketch, and as I’m writing this I’ve completed the filming. So all I need to do is edit it on Monday to post for Thursday. Or at least make a good start so then on Thursday I can refine it.
Invites:
This week I sent some emails inviting people to come to watch the open event myself and the rest of The Actors Workshop Nottingham gang are doing. So far as I'm writing this 3 people can't come, but the plan now is to email the rest of my invites and then do a follow up 2 weeks before. Fingers cross at least one of them will come.
Belvoir Castle:
This week I was back at Belvoir castle, where I got to play a witch and helping children complete the trail to scare the ghosties and ghoulies away. I did have fun yes, but the lunch hour rush was a challenge. I’ll be honest I did feel like I wanted to cry but I got through it and everyone was happy and entertained. And I even made a few people’s day without even realising it. As there were two kids who like myself, needed some additional requirements. And for them to leave with a smile on their face was the best feeling ever. And my colleague even mentioned about my journey to one parent and how it’s made me the person I am today. I didn’t mind, as the parent was amazed by it and she even admitted that it took a while for them to come but they’re glad they did. And it’s moments like this where I think I’ve fallen in love with acting again. As I get to meet people from all parts of the country with each of them on their own journey. I know it was only one day this week and then only one day next week but it was worth it.
Act On This podcast:
This week I managed to catch up on the Act On This answers session. They really did focus on squeezing more from 2024, and I after hearing the advice they gave I’m definitely ready to take it on board! I’ve also got the answers needed of sending an email to invite people to showcases, who’s most likely to go and when to email them. So all in all a brilliant podcast indeed, especially one where its helped me linking to my open event I mentioned at the start of this blog. Keep an eye out on my Instagram @theautisticactress for more details!
Shows I Watched:
Coronation Street:
This week I caught up on Corrie from 9th and 11th October. Things did get awkward after the moment between Carla and Lisa after Carla reinstated Betsy, but I have a feeling that this storyline is only just beginning. I’m also pleased that Bethany is back in the UK, but heartbroken when she tries to push Daniel away. I get why due to her insecurities, but I do think Daniel still genuinely loves her, so it’ll take a lot of convincing to do. Mason is also in the lurch after he refuses to help his brother, and even though Eileen is trying to help gasmen, knowing what happened with her and Geoff, it all got out of hand when the window was thrown in their home. I do think that mason is trying to change, and if he was still a bad boy everyone days he is then he wouldn’t have offered to move out even if he had no choice. And finally, from what I heard Jesse is abit of a trouble maker, especially from Eileen. Although it was funny to see David’s face when Gail and Jesse announced their relationship! But I can only imagine what will happen next after Damon’s money was stolen!
Hollyoaks:
Hollyoaks was once again full of drama. Mondays episode was a belter. Even though Sienna is mad at Vicky for gate crashing the wedding, I’m glad that she knows that Vicky beloved she didn’t murder Ethan. Donny also has a few problems of his own whilst planning his and Misbah's wedding, but little does his know that Robbie has joined forces with his blackmailers. Tony is also in the firing line after the truth about his fling with Marie is revealed, and it looks like the psychosis may be hitting hard for Ste, as after he trapped red into thinking he kidnapped James, he still beloved he’s still alive. Tuesdays episode saw Robbie launching a plan in place, but I wonder how he’ll work his way out of it when Vicky gets caught in danger. I also get why Marie ended things with Tony as she doesn’t want to hurt her friends feelings more, so I wonder if she is right to say that Tony and Diane will get back together? It was also great to see Krissi Bohn take on the role of Ste’s therapist, and even though it’s her job to look after Ste, even she thought that maybe he is imagining things. Wednesdays episode saw Donny and Robbie face the wrath of Misbah. I wonder how they’re going to work their way out of this one? I also think Ste is playing a very dangerous but clever game, and Darren is put in an impossible situation. I also think that JJ is going to run away because of guilt, even if he doesn’t realise it.
Doctors:
This week as always was another explosive week. In “Old School”, I was glad that the awareness of autism has been brought up. And I saw in the trailer that the boy had some form of intellectual impairment, but after a rocky start with a neighbour, I’m glad things have smother things over, and that I’m hoping the mum will get some support from her workplaces and the school. And I felt the boy when he mentioned about his father. I also liked Rosie’s adventure in the sustainability course, and it could be seen to affect the staff in a weird way in “Bureaucrazy, where there was also some more drama form the other staff. I’ve never seen Jimmi loose his temper before, and I never want to get on his bad side. It took some convincing but he managed to finally help his friend get the operation he needs. Bears announcement may also be the indicator of the final storyline for the show, and I’m glad that a patient was helped by Luca when she were mistress by Graham. At least now someone else has spoken out about it. So I’m hoping this will be the start of the end of Graham. In “Sucker Punch”, Rosie’s plan may have been a distraction amongst the other partners. But I must say, her nephew Mickey seems as though he’s a great laugh. I also get why a mother handed herself in to protect her son, but it may be more complicated when she has to go to hospital. And after yet another showdown with Graham, I don’t even blame Luca for doing what he did. But it won’t look good for when the case review does come. And I was right, as in “Strike Out”, Graham somehow managed to put Zara in an impossible situation. And the mother who handed herself in during the last episode also had a situation with regards to her husband, who turned out to be a bad man. I just hope she gets the help she needs.
Eastenders:
Eastenders this week had a lot to offer. Penny is still all in on getting revenge on her dad but I wonder if she’ll have second thoughts after what happened with Harry in the past? And after reading about Tommy and kat on digital spy, it looks like it’ll come to ahead after Alfie May have uncovered the secret. Also I don’t know how Suki is aware of Nish's plan, and I must say I don’t not want to get on Ravi's bad side after getting the wrong idea with Barney. Thankfully I’m Tuesdays episode, Barney was safe and even protected Avani and prevented from getting Ravi arrested. And it looks like he has handled Mason his own way. I’m surprised that penny also looked past harry and his allegation, but I wonder if it is true when he admits he didn’t do it? And I daren’t mess with someone like Harry when he blackmailed had And I can also see what Kat and Alfie mean by Tommy’s temper, and after overhearing a conversation he’s on the verge of spiraling again, with poor Freddie being caught in the firing line. He did explain why his behaviour is like this but that’s no excuse. And from the looks of the spoilers coming up it doesn’t look good. Wednesdays episode dealt with a lot. With Freddie injuries, I’m surprised Kat hasn’t take anything seriously. But maybe she’s secretly scared that Tommy would do something more horrible if she did anything. and after Jean came and saw what he did to his brothers, she has definitely decided to take matters into her own hands. But they’re not the only ones who are suffering. After the fire incident I do feel for Barney who was told my teddy and Harry to “man up” which for me personally is toxic. I’m glad he has people like avani who accept him for who he is, but I don’t blame Barney for secretly contacting his mum. But I can tell Ravi wants revenge. Jack has also got Harry where he wants after the blackmail in the previous episode. I just can’t wait to see how it pans out. Thursday's episode saw Kat not making the best decision with regards to Tommy. Despite a setback from Bianca, I’m glad that Zak was able to take him in, but I just don’t want her to push Alfie away. I also still feel bad for Barney when teddy and Harry told him to forget their mum, but good on him to find out some answers himself. Jean may have also made a new friend and finally Nish really has got a devious plan ahead of him.
Heartstopper:
This week I watched more of Heartstopper. In the episode “Talk”, I’m glad Isaac had the courage to speak about his sexuality, and despite an argument with Tao, I’m glad they were able to put their differences aside. I also can’t wait to see Darcy's journey of how she identifies gender wise and that I’m also glad Charlie is finally having the courage to tell his parents on how he’s feeling. And Just like me writing what he feels is just as beneficial. In “Journal”, I liked how both Charlie and Nick journaled their experiences after the last episode. Nick talking about how it was without Charlie, but had the support of his friends (which I’m glad his rugby friends respect their privacy) and Charlie talking about his experience in the clinic, and how even though it’s not cured him completely he still has support should he need it. In the episode “Winter”, even though his parents were trying to help, I can get why Charlie needs them off of their back. I also get why tori is upset as apart from Nick she’s one of the very few who takes into account his feelings. I’m just glad they were able to enjoy new years. But they weren’t the only ones on their journeys. Elle and Tao understood each others needs on a deeper level, and after Elle had a pep talk from Naomi, it appeared to have worked. I also praise darcy for thinking about their pronouns with the help of Felix and Imogen is starting to explore a different side to herself with sahar. Which I think I’m quite looking forward to.
The Power of Parker:
This weeks episodes of this show were intense. In the third episode, it took their dad being in hospital and a night out to reconcile the sisters and form a plan to get one over Martin. And Martin himself had got himself in a sticky situation. I’m the 4th episode, Martin managed to get away but Kath couldn’t get what she wanted. So it looks like it’s back to the drawing board for the sisters, although I dread to think what will happen next after Martin follows them to the nurses him.
Alma’s not normal:
More of this show has got better as it goes on. In episode 3, I felt bad for alma as it looked as though she met the perfect guy in Phil (where it was lovely to see horrible histories actor Ben willbound in it), but sometimes things aren’t always what they seem. In episode 4, it was an adventure getting her mum a home after checking out of the hospital. I can’t wait to see the trouble she gets up to at Joan’s house.
Personal:
Sisters grub:
This week I had the most delicious meal made from my sister. Yes it was simple but sometimes less is more, and this was a perfect example. And it was tasty, which is the main thing.
Exercise.
This week exercise was limited due to Belvoir Castle and not overdoing it. But I managed to do plenty of yoga, so one gym session and had 20 minutes on the exercise bike. I forgot how good it felt even though I doubled the time I would normally go on there. I really think I should do it more often.
Mamma Mia:
To get me in the mood for next week I watched the film Mamma Mia. And I can see why it’s so popular, and I’m so glad that after 24 years on this planet I got the chance to watch my mum’s favourite show! Now I’m all hyped and excited for the show itself!
Nans 80th celebrations:
The Sunday was some birthday celebrations. As a few days ago she reached the big 8-0. And it was a good afternoon to say the least. I saw family I haven’t seen in ages and also bonded over my cousins son, who I found out was very fast and at running. We also did a general knowledge quiz and it was also very fun. So overall a good afternoon with good company.
Strictly Come Dancing:
From last week everyone brought their a game. Even though Sam made a few mistakes she still brought the personality, and no tells couples choice was off of the chart. I was surprised by who was in the dance off and even though the right person went it just goes to show that anything can happen. This week was spooky week and boy did I love it. I’ve not watched all of it but after some spoilers let’s just say that it could be anyone’s game at this point.
Gogglebox:
This week was a special addition of gogglebox, where it’s all in aid of stand up to cancer. As well as reacting to shows like Only Connect, First Dates and Will and Ralf Should Know Better (Although I do want to see what Rivals is all about), they also showed some stories. One of which was quite upsetting, as their cancer was found by chance. I do think that shows like this are a good way to help spread awareness, as the more people tune in the more awareness it’s raising. And as someone who’s had a family member affected by cancer I think it’s more important than ever.
Hard times:
I think the hard times this week have been the power of saying no. And I had to say no to a few things this week. Two of which were auditions (due to distance and the fear of spending a lot of money on travel for one, and also clashing with another event pre booked for the other). And I’m glad my agent was able to notice it for one of them, as yes at times I would need to invest in travel to get to locations for rehearsals and performances but not to the point where I’m in debt. Another example of saying no was to see a show at the weekend in my home town. If I saw it, it would’ve been my 4th time seeing it, as it’s a show I’ve watched since secondary school. But due to financial reasons and keeping an eye on my social battery I decided to take a breather. The final thing I said no to was a job interview I applied for. Yes it may have made me miss the chance to have a job where it’s flexible for my acting career, but the reality is unless I’m a millionaire, it’s a zero hour contract and therefore I may not get money coming in regularly. And the catch is if I don’t want the money I won’t be able to go to my acting classes or travel to auditions. So it’s onwards and upwards.
What have I learnt this week? You can have everything but not all at once. And this week I definitely learnt it the hard way.
See you soon for another blog. Until next time…
This is The Autistic Actress signing off :)
