Hello world! Welcome back to another blog and the first weekly highlights since the summer. It hasn’t got off to the best of starts as I have suffered a cold for most of the week (which I’ll get onto later but as you can see below, Margo was looking aftering me). But that didn’t stop me from doing some awesome stuff.
Professional:
Podcast:
This week I managed to catch up on a recent Act On This podcast. This was with director Debbie Howard, and how you can be creative on your own terms after talking about her short film Safe, which I need to see after she revealed the subject of the piece. I also got to see a member of act on this talk about his experience working with Debbie, as he got a job on Coronation Street after seeing her on the last podcast. I won’t say how he got it but all I can say that he’s a hustler and that definitely had an impact.
Audition:
This week my agent sent me an audition which I won’t say what it’s for but let’s just say that it’s for a favourite genre of mine. This week I spent it mostly rehearsing it due to my cold. But as I’m writing this I just managed to be off script. So let’s just hope that when I film it the next day it’ll be decent enough to send.
Acting class:
This week I continued to develop my skills in my weekly acting class. For this session we looked at possible material for a show which is taking place on the second Sunday of December this year (and I’ll post more details about it on my Instagram acting page @theautisticactress very soon) and I managed to share a monologue. Normally I would do comedy but this time I felt like challenging myself and do some Shakespeare. I had lots of fun doing it and I got some wonderful feedback in preparation for next week. We even learnt abit of a song for a music video for my teachers new film. Now I was excited for it, and fingers crossed I can get to be in the actual music video for it itself.
Watched shows:
Coronation Street:
All things were going down on the cobbles. From the aftermath of Paul’s death to Bethany working at a new job which will change her life forever. And after seeing spoilers it’s not looking great. And with Betsy revealing a secret about Joel, Dee Dee and Lisa have their sights set on bribing him down.
Doctors:
As Doctors is now in its final part of the year, it’s definitely leading to a lot happening. Kirsty is on a new path, Rosie has returned, and I feel that Graham may be abit of a baddie. Let’s just hope Zara can sense his negative side. The Doctors have alot had a lot of people who have had some problems which definitely challenged them. These included Sid encountering a girl who’s a victim of renege porn, Jimmi who tries to help an old ally, rhuma suspecting something when visiting a new mum to be and a boy who at first struggled with control, but after Jimmi gave him some words of wisdom, he may have the power to get it back. I’m also glad that Rosie is back but this time as a main character. Mind you with the show finishing soon she may as well take the last slot.
Hollyoaks:
Now that Hollyoaks has entered a new era, where it’s now moved forward in them one year, it definitely has the drama. These include Mercedes going through the toughest time of her life, Cleo still being brainwashed by Abe, and Robbie about to be in for a shock with regards to Vicky. I also hope that Lucas doesn’t find out the truth about Dillon and Leah as she heads off for university, and Frankie dropping her allegations may not be the best idea in the world.
Sherwood:
This week I’ve watched episodes 2 and 3 of series two of this amazing show. I wasn’t sure how they’d top off the first one as it was based on real events, but I’m glad they did do a second series as it’s been brilliant so far. All I can say is the sparrows and Brandon’s may be at war once again after two horrific killings, and Ian and Julie may have something going on between the two.
Waterloo Road:
This week I also watched episodes 2 and 3 of Waterloo Road. Steve savage is definitely a head teacher not to be messed with, despite his unique way of running a school. I do feel bad for his son Billy, who sadly made a target for Schuey. But I do hope someone stands up to him sooner as for me it’s getting abit silly now. I’m also intrigued to see Tonya's new storyline and her health problems, so let’s hope she can get the help she needs
Daddy Issues:
This week I also watched episodes 2 and 3 of Daddy Issues, a new comedy starring David Morrisey and Aimee Lou wood who was also in Sex Education. So far I’m loving this drama, as I got to see a different side to David that was really refreshing. Although I’m not too keen on derek at the moment, but that’s when you know he’s playing the character well. I also can’t wait to see the connection between Gemma and Xander, and how he reacted about her pregnancy was so lovely and that’s how all men should treat single mums for me personally.
Personal:
Seeing a show:
This kind of falls under professional and personal as it’s my job to see stuff as an actor, but it’s also good to relax after some hectic few days. The show I went to see what Dear Evan Hansen, at the Nottingham playhouse with a really good friend of mine. And it was both what we needed, and even though I saw the show before, it never failed to make me cry in the places where it’s meant to. I will be releasing a full review of the show soon, so keep an eye out for that and where you can see it at a venue near you.
Day job:
This week at my day job it's not been too bad. But the bad thing was due to reasons beyond my control, I have to work some extra hours. But because I was also getting ill (which I'll mention later on), I did oversleep the Monday, and this was my second time doing so. But thankfully my dad was on hand to rescue me, giving me my toast on the way, and for that I applaud him for it. I also got an email about shifts for a new potential job, which I didn't reply to this week but I will get onto it next week. Yes it may mean a pay cut, but already I thought about what I could cut back on and also save. So at least I don't have that issue to worry about.
My Fair Lady:
This week i also watched the film My Fair Lady. I needed this as a form of self-care, and it did help. There were two songs of the film which I heard before, and I'm glad I got to see where they originated from. I'll do a full review of the film along with some others I have watched this year, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled.
Strictly Come Dancing:
This week I also watched the rest of the first episode of Strictly Come Dancing. I must say there have been some surprises, some which I knew were going to do well, but also some where I have a feeling that they’d be the first one out.
Archery:
This week wasn’t final session of Archery. It felt abit sad knowing that apart from one Thursday in the winter and the frost bite session, I won’t be able to make the indoor session. But I know I will still support the amazing group in any way I can, and I think I’ve sensed my last session on a high.
Bad things:
Cold:
This week I suffered with a bad cold (thankfully not Covid). It did affect me doing some stuff at hand yes, but the main thing this week was rest and recuperation. Yes it did mean missing applying to some acting jobs that couldn’t changed my life but sometimes your health must come first. And without your health, you have nothing. So I recovered by just relaxing, and simply not going to the gym. Although I did do alot of yoga and walking with my dog, which is just as beneficial, so at least I’m not being totally lazy.
Change in routine:
This week I was meant to go out for the evening. But due to the distance of the place being longer than expected, I had to head home straight away. This messed me up completely as for autistic people like me need routine and structure, so you can imagine how this must’ve felt. I did feel gutted but at the same time I had to think about my own safety. This also affected my routine when I went to work as mentioned before, but i managed to keep my cool, stick on some music and told myself not to panic, which I didn't.
What have I learnt this week? Health really is wealth. Yes it may mean missing on a few opportunities, but it's moments like this where without your health, you have nothing. And sometimes you need to get rid of the good to make room for the great.
See you soon for another blog. Until next time...
This is The Autistic Actress signing off :)
