Hello world! Welcome back to another blog. As always, this week was definitely more positive, with one opportunity may be back up and running, and one adventure where it may help me gaining some more financial freedom. So without further ado, here is what I got up to the week commencing 7th October 2024.
Professional:
Auditions:
I managed to sub myself on Mandy and nudged my agent on a few exciting jobs. I saw one on spotlight that required a self tape within the application, but thankfully because they’re both quite long I have a feeling that I won’t need to be off script. But as long as I don’t look down too much and I get a scene partner then all is well.
Act on this
Podcast:
Ian Puleston-Davis:
After starting the first hour last week I continued to listen to the podcast with actor, writer and director Ian Puleston-Davis, the second part of the podcast was incredible! I don’t want to reveal all, but let’s just say that I’ve learnt more about why he decided to go into directing, why he’s continuing it and also the three types of actors there are and which one he fits into. So overall a brilliant session, and once again making that commitment to still do it even if it’s not at his location.
Duncan Foster:
This wasn’t initially planned but this week I also caught up on an act on this podcast with Duncan Foster. I have heard that he was a legend and a legend he was. He talked about his career, how he short the most amazing episodes of coronation street and even gave out his personal email at the end. That’s all I can say at the moment but all in all a brilliant podcast.
First TV Role Fast Track:
Bonus call 1 & Guest speaker with Tony Blake:
For First TV Role Fast Track, I managed to listen to the bonus call for module 1 and also listened to the guest speaker session with Tony Blake. I learnt a lot, one thing I’d that because I have wavy hair I sometimes have it straight as well, so it answered a question for me. But I also learnt that for Tony, a headshot for him is like coming off set which in his style looks amazing. So I’m hoping when I go into my next headshot session I can capture that essence of being on set.
I then again posted my options for outfits and hair styles for when I book in my next sit on the Facebook page. Some agreed with me but told me to avoid plats. Whilst I was a bit weary about it, they do have a point in thinking I need to go for the day later roles leaning into my age (as even though I look younger than 24, my guess is they would need someone who is actually 15 to the role they need). So it’s def given me food for thought.
Bonus call 2:
I also managed to catch up on the first half an hour with the bonus call from Module 2. Already I’m learning loads, which includes how to keep up to date with the casting teams and also the schedule of what shows are happening when. And after some clips on east Enders I may end up watching it as my new drama after doctors is finished. Or even casualty, as I am looking for a new medical show to be a patient in. I also learnt about how a typical block is being done, and managed to set up the lists on my X (formerly Twitter) account and I can now officially keep up with all things serial drama, and what other stuff Casting Directors like.
Acting class:
This week in my acting class I looked at my monoglots for our event. I got some good feedback, and my teacher mentioned some minor tweaks. These included my eyes not being everywhere and also having two people at the side of me to bring the piece to life. And that’s an idea I quite like. I also got a glimpse of the adult pantomime we may do. I won’t say which one in fear of spoilers but based on how much I laughed at the start I think it’s going to be so much fun.
Film:
At the end of the week I chatted with my colleague about the next steps for the film. So the plan is to chat next week and see where we can submit it to. I’ve already sent him a few names and I’ve also found some more. So let’s hope that after a hiatus due to life and other things coming in our way beyond our control, let’s hope people would still be interested and also plan our passion show.
Shows I Watched:
Coronation Street:
Coronation Street brought all the drama. I think Sarah was being abit harsh with Daniel, and yes I can see why, but Daniel didn’t know at the time. I also had to feel for Bethany when she was given her life changing news, and I hope she pulls through after another setback with her condition. I also think that mason was trying to clear the air with Liam, Betsy and Dylan, as he his tone sounded different. But after seeing spoilers, it won’t be long before Stu and Yasmeen find out about his living conditions. Hope is also abit of a trouble maker, first interrupting Fiz's 40th birthday and then stealing from Aadi's shop, and with the weird money transactions, Joel is literally on the verge of a mental breakdown. I’m just glad that Roy wasn’t hurt, but after seeing spoilers there’s more drama to come.
As I started the week commencing 30th September, it was definitely drama left right and centre. Bethany’s set back after the surgery has had a financial impact on the Platts, and Audrey’s help only caused more trouble. It was also Paul’s funeral, and even though Billy would find out eventually Bernie saying what she said was not the time or the place. I get that she’s upset after seeing Denny, but that’s not an excuse to mention it to him. And after Joel’s voicemail in last Fridays episode, and after seeing some spoilers, some of the residents may be in the firing line after tragic events. I also respect fiz decision after a shocking discovery was made. But I dread to think how it’ll impact hope and Ruby.
Hollyoaks:
Hollyoaks brought in all of the drama. Mercedes definitely didn’t hold back and meant what she said to Grace. And Ethan and Sienna's wedding was definitely one to remembered not only for a car fight, but a new whodunnit is on the case. And with Maxine finding video evidence of what happened between the two the night before and also during the time jump, I wonder if Sienna played a part in it. I’m also glad that Frankie is there to support Vicky, and I hope that Robbie can at least be on good terms with her. Finally Wednesday brought some tension and grief stricken frenzy with Sienna (and I do feel her pain about being the weird child) and also Leela pretending to be happy families, aiming to show abes true colours. I also know that whilst Vicky may not be romantically involved with Robbie, he’ll do anything he can to keep her out of the speculation. And the ending left me opened mouthed.
Doctors:
Doctors this week was a real show stopper. In “Explosion”, what Graham said to Luca was horrible, but I’m also glad the homeless surgery went well. Particularly when Rosie stood up to a patient who had abit of an attitude about him. And even though Scarlett didn’t like it at first, she did well to help Holly's livestream. In "Being There", I’m glad that Luca made a complaint against Graham with the help of Emma, but I think he knows how to twist the knife. I’m also glad that Jimmi was there to help an old friend when the daughter comes to him for help, who also has news of her own at the end of the episode. In “Daddy's Little Girl” I can see where Graham gets his homophobia views from, and his son is definitely more mature than both parents, so good on him for knowing what he wants, and let’s just hope he and grahams ex will help bring down Graham at least before the show finishes. And it’s great to have Scarlett and Emma having a catch up, which I think is only making Scarlett more keen on the livestream. Finally, in “Who We Are”, Luca is definitely feeling the strain after Graham tries to work his way out of the meeting again following the complaint. I just hope that Emma can warn the others before the show finishes. I also wonder if Scarlett meant what she said when she won’t do anymore livestreams, and rob had a tough job on his hands when a man was stabbed, but the suspects revealed the true nature of the man himself. Let’s hope they can move forward with their lives.
Sherwood:
This week I watched the last 2 episodes of Sherwood. You have to feel proud of Harry when he struggled to give an all important briefing, but he managed to get through the case and also discovered the truth about his colleagues Marcus’ true connection with the Brandon’s. And after mickeys fate moments after daphne told him the truth about her past, revenge really kicked in motion. I’m also proud of Stephie for revealing the truth to Lisa about Ryan’s friends. And maybe it’s stuff like this where what stephie did may be best to be kept a secret, knowing how vulnerable she is already. I also praise Ian for standing his ground when a child involved in a gang was not stable to be interviewed. Yes police need to do their job but not at the expense of young people passing out midway through. Let’s just hope he and Julie can move on from this properly and start fresh, and also helping Daphne’s through her grief.
Waterloo Road:
This week I managed to catch up on the last few episodes of Waterloo Road.
(DISCLAIMER: Because it’s not been aired in mainstream tv and only on the iPlayer, for those that haven’t seen it yet I would recommend to skip through this section in fear of spoilers.)
Kelly Jo really doesn’t come down without a fight, and after a shocking incident at the school, I’m glad she knows what she wants in life and to make a change. You also have to feel for Noel when his crush didn’t go to plan, but found a new surprising romance, and despite a tiff, Preston managed to help them out. Yes Preston may have been caught in as rocky situation but I’m glad he managed to get his way out of it, but Dwayne may have messed things up with Tonya already after he kept Preston’s involvement with Boz and Schuey a secret. Things are also not looking good for Nicky and Donte once again after he finds out the truth about Steve, and Nisha can be cheeky in getting what she wants.
The final episode was just epic! It was amazing to see Kim back, and just as well, as Steve and Billy need to face the consequences of their actions. I don’t know where this leaves Schuey, and I’ll be amazed if he actually changes his ways. I’m also gutted about Donte and Nicky, but I’m glad that Preston got to see some old friends and also figure out what he wants in life. I don’t know if it’ll be the last of Preston and Kelly jo, but whatever happens I know they’ll do brilliant things.
Daddy Issues:
This week I also watched the penultimate episode of Daddy Issues. There’s a part of me that does get why Gemma wanted to reconnect with the baby’s dad, but I do have to feel sorry for Xander. But I’m glad that by the end Gemma knew what she wanted, as even though Derek being Derek handled it some would say the wrong way, he was actually right for once.
The last episode was a bit bittersweet for me. Nice as in I’m glad Gemma has had her baby, and that she’s on good terms with Xander (and even though he may have wanted to be with Gemma during her birth, he gets that her dad has to be there, which I respect), the ending was a bit abrupt. But all in all I thought it was really good.
PERSONAL:
Business mastery:
This week I started the welcome video of Business Mastery. It was a lot to take in but I’m glad Matt had made the 8 modules simpler for me, as I don’t want to rush into any of it. So I’m hoping that along with first tv role fast track and the event with my acting class, can learn a lot from this. My aim is to get through to module 4 by Christmas, but have a non negotiable to get to module 2. That way I can set my targets and I can time block every detail into going through this exciting new adventure.
Short Story:
This week I finally completed my short story based on a Peaky Blinders style show. I think I’m going to wait until the movie is aired, as for some reason when I found out it was going into production I had a new found inspiration. And after learning through writing monologues that I need to write the first thing that comes to my head, it made writing the rest of the story much more exciting.
Northern Lights:
The northern lights (which I only found out about on the night it happened), was lovely to see. I never knew how beautiful our planet was until now, and I’m glad I got to see them whilst I could.
Strictly Come Dancing:
This week I watched the rest of movie week of the iconic dance competition. Shayne did a brilliant job at portraying the king of rock and roll, and Wynne would be a brilliant Mrs doubtfire if they were looking for a new lead. I also may not be an expert on Bollywood, but regardless of how far Punam will go in the competition, I’m glad she went on their and made history doing a dance that’s close to her heart, as it was fantastic. Finally Jamie really did end movie week on a high with him take on Elton John.
This week so far has also been surprising. I won’t give it all away as we’ll be her forever, but so far Paul Merson has actually improved, and I’m glad that Nick Knowles is back after his injury, but I thought the scores could be a bit higher to be honest. I also have a feeling of who could be at risk of going home. I don’t want to say a I could be wrong but now at this point it could be anyone.
Gogglebox:
This week was a fair share of amazing sows the Goggleboxer's reacted to. I do agree with them on Nadiya's unique recipe, and I think I need to watch Will Mellor's and Ralf Little's tv show as it looked brilliant. I also loved their reaction to Pete Wicks Samba, and now I definitely need to start watching Heartstopper season 3 ASAP. The news also brought some insane stories, including charging people for leftovers and raising the price of stamps. I also loved the doghouse, despite max and peanut having a rocky start, and I think there’s a little bit of comedy in Slow Horses, as river was able to make a joke every now and then. But I just wanted more.
Moments of dips:
Not really any dipping moments other than a wobble at my day job. But I’d probably boil it down to the fact that I was just tired. So next week I need to yes be productive but take it easy as well to avoid burnout. But thankfully I had my dog who as you can see below, just made herself look cute to cheer me up!
What have I learnt this week! As Matt hall said, make the commitments and I will see results if I do the work. But for me, do it in a way that’ll avoid burnout.
See you soon for another blog. Until next time…
This is the autistic actress signing off :)
